High Performance Austenitic Stainless Steel

High Performance Austenitics - made for harshest condition

If you need material for a harsh environment like an offshore oil platform or desalination plant, the chances are that your choice will be high-alloyed, high-performance austenitic grade.

Our high-performance austenitic grades are available for a wide range of process conditions, providing the right protection against corrosion, material deterioration or maintenance need. This includes grades for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, seawater handling, pulp bleaching, hydrometallurgy, cryogenic applications and many other applications.

Our high-performance austenitic grades achieve their enhanced resistance to corrosion and other properties by heightened levels of chromium, nickel, molybdenum and/or nitrogen, depending on the application at hand.

Properties

Austenitic steels generally have a relatively low yield stress and are characterized by strong work hardening. They also exhibit very high ductility and toughness. The addition of nitrogen in high-alloyed austenitic grades gives higher proof strength and tensile strength than the standard Cr-Ni or Cr-Ni-Mo grades. The austenitic grades are the only group suitable for cryogenic applications.

Weldability

High-alloyed austenitic stainless steels are highly suitable for welding. Due to high contents of chromium, nickel, molybdenum and nitrogen, their corrosion resistance and in some cases mechanical properties are superior to conventional Cr-Ni and Cr-Ni-Mo grades. From the point of view of workshop practice, the high-alloyed austenitic grades are somewhat similar to standard austenitic grades.

Corrosion Resistant

High-alloyed austenitic grades provide some of the highest corrosion resistance achievable with stainless steel. The resistance to uniform corrosion and localized corrosion, including chloride and sulfide induced stress corrosion cracking, is very good. Each grade is outstanding in its distinct area.

Forms

You can get high performance austenitic grades in a variety of forms:

  • Coil and sheet
  • Thin strip
